A Gem Of Bhakti Of Lord Krishna
Meera bai who was Lord Krishna's pure devotee she was born in 15 century in Chaurkari village in Merta ,Rajasthan. Her father was Ratan Singh a descendant of Rao Rathor, the founder of Jodhpur. She was born as princess but left the palace of Begging in the streets of Vrindavan .Meera bai was Rajput princess was only child of Ratan Singh. When Meera was only 3 years old and wandering Sadhu came to her house. As per hindu traditions a saint is always welcomed and treated with a lot of respect by royals as saints are considered as God's Presence. Ratan Singh kept the lord krishna statue in his room later when meera came to her father's room with her grandmother she got her attention towards the Statue of Lord Krishna but Mira as a kid was immensely attracted to Lord Krishna that later after her grandmother left she went and sat in front of the Statue of Krishna .Here the Saint who came to meet as house was happy as he was welcome to beautifully and was impressed by the treatment he received so in return Saint asked meera's grandmother a wish , as mira's grandmother was old he just wanted to give her blessings , but later Meerabai jump into the conversation and without any hesitation she asked him politely if he can give her statue of Lord Krishna.In matter of minute when Meera realise that Saint was not ready to give for the statue she burst out in tears. As when saint saw meera crying , he convince himself to give away the Statue of he is Lord which was gifted by his Guru. Later he blessed the family, gave the statue and began to walk away
From that day meera bai dedicated her every little thing to lord krishna . Once meera saw a wedding (Baarat) going at her place , turning to her mom she asked in "who will be my husband?".Here her mother replied just with same innocence her daughter had asked her the question that " You already have your husband that is lord krishna ". Meera's mother was always happy seeing her daughter showing show love for Krishna but past away when meera was 10 years old.
Later at early age , Meera's father arranged for her to be married to Prince Bhoj Raj the crown prince of Mewat in 1516 . The marriage was elevated Meera's social position ,however Meera was unwillingly to get married as she already found her husband in Krishna ,under the pressure of her family's reputation she agreed to marry. She thought that no one will understand her emotions. Even when meera didn't like this marriage still serve her husband Bhoj Raj dutifully and also later gave some time for her beloved Lord Krishna with devotions . Her new family did not approved of her love in devotion to Lord Krishna but later it got more worse when Meera refused to worship their family god Isha Devi-Durga. As in a response she said that she had dedicated herself to Sri Krishna. Her entire In Laws family were against her actions. But she spend more time discussing spiritual issues with Sadhus .Meera's sister in law Udabai began spreading false gossip to defame meera. She said that she was entertaining man in her room in the game of worship in Krishna. Her Husband was so angry that she went to her room with sword in it hand but after seeing Meera was only singing to the statue of Krishna , no man was there at all. Even after meera received criticism still she remained unmoved. Meera's bhajan was sung all across North India .As the fame and Spirituality of Meerabai reached the errors of Mughal emperor Akbar. Akhbar was very powerful emperor and also believed in religious paths.But when Akbar came to know that she was an Rajput princess, as Mughals and Rajputs were the worst enemies. But Akbar was determined to see princess Saint Meerabai .He in beggars clothes travelled with tanden to visit her ,Akbar was mesmerized by her soulful music and devotional singing that he placed at her feet a priceless necklace before leaving later Akbar's visit came to the ears of her husband Bhoj Raj.
He was Furious that a muslim and his own enemy had set eyes on his wife. He ordered Meerabai to commit suicide by drowning into river. Meera bai accepted his command and as she was entering into river, Shri Krishna appear to her and commanded her to leave for Vrindavan by she could worship in peace. With few followers Meerabai left for Vrindavan where she spend her time in devotion to Shri Krishna. After that her husband became regretful feeling that his wife was real saint so he travel to Vrindavan and requested her to return. Meera forcefully agreed to return back ,soon after meerabai's husband died during fighting against the Mughals This made the situation even worse for Meerabai. Her father in law Rana Sanga,so her death husband as a way to get rid of Meerabai he commanded her to commit towards Sati . Sati is a process where a wife commit suicide by throwing herself on her husband's funeral fire.but response she said that her real husband ,Sri Krishna had not died After this incident her husband's family continue to tortureher they restricted a movements and made her life miserable as possible.
Her in laws tried the best to kill her twice once with venomous snake and other with the poisonous drink on both occasions Meerabai was protected by grace of Sri Krishna later she slipped out of the place and escaped to the holy city of Vrindavan where she was free to worship Krishna. Later one day when meerabai was singing in a temple when Shri Krishna appeared to his subtle form . Shri Krishna was so pleased with his dearest devotee that he opened his heart and Meerabai miraculously disappeared into an idol of Krishna heart while lord Krishna was in highest state of consciousness.
