Once there was a beautiful maiden called Madhura who observed Somvar Vrat ton marry Lord Shiva. See one decided to visit Mount Kailash after completing her fast please him. That time Goddess Parvati was not around later when Parvati came to know she got Apsara to turn into a frog for a charming and trying on her husband in her absence. Lord Shiva calmed his wife and give Madhura by blessing her with the boon of becoming a beautiful woman who will marry a great valorous king. But by the Madhura turned into a frog and lived in the forest for 12 years then. A king called mayasura and his wife wanted a daughter so they performed Yagna to please Lord Shiva. Later Mayasura rescued Madhura who then talk into a beautiful girl child. Here MayaSura wife thought that it was Lord Shiva prayers and so they adopted her as your own child and named her Mandodari

One day Ravana had come to take visit to king Mayasura as then when he saw Mandodri and had fell for her  as looking at her beauty. As Ravana king without any hesitation on that time asked mayasur that he would love to marry his daughter  and will take care of her like a queen .Mandodri also agreed with this marrige and it was a happy marrige where Mandodri give birth to two sons one :Meghanada , second: Akshayakumara . But later both his son's died Meghnada was killed by Hanuman and Akshayakumara was killed by Lakshman. Later Ravan had married Dhanyamalini. But later After Ravan second marriage, Mandodari  became the queen of the lanka.Even after being with his husband who was not in good characters still she was a simple and sweet queen of the lanka. Mandodri always tried her best to give advice to her husband when he tried to be destructive but Ravan never obeyed her advices. It is believed that  in previous Birth devi sita was Vedavati a woman  who was tortured by Ravana and gave her life by doing suicide, later Ravana was cursed that in next rebirth of Vedvati  she will be the reason for Ravan death .As later when sita was born Ravan tried to throw her in water where later she floated and reached  Janaknagari . Where she was born and brought up by Janak Maharaj and later was the reason for Ravana's death . 

Mandodari was never jealous of her husband passion towards sita , but warns him for keeping evil designs towards sita .Mandodari was so kind that she tried all the ways to save sita .One time Ravana was about to kill sita due to angry but than Mandodari stopped him by holding his hand and said that "murdering a women is a heinous sin". The day when Ram  killed Ravana mandodari was upset seeing this Lord Ram felt bad for her so he later told Vibhishan to marry her Sister in law and all made her the queen of entire Lanka for  the people who stayed in Lanka.
